The Indian government has announced guidelines for auction and allotment of spectrum for 3G telecommunication services. Spectrum in the 2.1 GHz band will be allocated for 3G services through bidding in an auction.
The base price is quoted at Rs.2,200 crores for each license. Many say the actual price may go up many fold as many foreign players like AT&T, Verizon are desperate to get into Indian telecom market. This puts enormous pressure on many Indian players like Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Communications and Reliance Communications to rise their bar and bid at a higher price.
Its all good news for Indian customers as the call charges may come down significantly due to competitive market.
So brace up for the new revolution in telecom market in 2009.
