Indian Hockey has reached rock bottom by not even qualifying for Beijing Olympics this year. India lost to Great Britain 0-2 in the Finals of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament which took place in Santiago, thus they dont deserve to play in the 2008 Olympics. For the people of India, whose national sport is hockey, this comes as a rude shock. India had long reigned in Hockey winning 8 Gold medals and 3 silver medals in the Olympics.But over the past decade they have been maintaining a clean sheet in their medals tally in all the tournaments. Its highly embarrasing to lose to a team like Great Britain which is sort of a new kid in Hockey. Indian Hockey administration, the IHF should rightly take responsibility for this debacle. This is once again a crude reminder of how badly hockey has been run in this country.
Cricket seems to be the darling of the public, the media, the politicians and everyone. But Cricketers apart from great facilities have maintained their position in the top 3 or 4 in the world throghout the past decade or so. So, the indian Hockey team and the IHF are to be blamed completely.
Chuck out officials of IHF and build an adsministration involving ex-hockey players and technicians who love the game.
